ABOUT US

Gwashé (Ngwa - Sheuh) is a patrimonial designation originated from the western region (Bamiliké) of Cameroon, West Africa specifically from a village called Bamena.

In the not so distant past, identifying family members in the Bamiliké society was complicated because children did not bear their father’s name, unlike nowadays. As a result a patronymic introduction was created to trace lineages. This  took into consideration the family genealogy and the gender of its bearer. It traced a child to his or her village of origin via his or her parent. The name Gwashé is one of such names. This name was attributed to the owner of the brand Gwashé as a female child, and it links her to her paternal parent.
